The following series of photographs were inspired by black and white body portraits done by photographer Andre Kertesz. I was drawn to his ability to abstract the female form in odd ways while still capturing it with a curious beauty. These photos were taken digitally through various jars and other pieces of glass in efforts to achieve a similar aesthetic.
A large body of my work relates to the female form and how it is transformed through light. This series is the beginning of a larger study exploring how light can and does transform the body. I look forward to continuing the study with more female models as well as making comparisons to the male form.
I am largely inspired by portrait painting from the Renaissance. The female subject's gaze and positioning has always intrigued me, especially in reference to how that relates to the everlasting topic of what a woman's role was then and currently is today in art. These photos were taken digitally and final select prints were printed on large canvas.
