Recently as a photographer I have found myself interested and exploring themes involving the female form as subject and what it means to be a female artist. Largely, the photographer Andre Kertesz has inspired me in my work. I enjoy using simple lighting techniques to explore the female form and the way it interacts with light. I have used this principle in two series' thus far and look forward to continuing this principle through a study of not only the female form, but male form as well. I also am largely inspired by Renaissance painting portraiture and have experimented with replicating Renaissance style portraits through photography. I enjoy using non traditional items for the model's fashion choice and replicating the stiff and often distant look that so many women were portrayed to have during that time.
As a female artist I believe it's important to be proud of my work and the accomplishments I have made. Knowing the strides that women have made in the art world, starting as only patrons to becoming actual artists is something I find relevant in all my work. I look to continue to explore the history of women as artists and further understand and develop this theme of female importance and pride throughout my work.
