COMPETITORS

THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE UGLY

The main competitors for Tuned In are Ticketmaster, Livenation, Bandmate, and Songkick. All of these apps give basic information about the artists and concerts but do not go into as much depth as Tuned In. Some of the competitors sites and apps were also very cluttered and not very user-friendly.

INSPIRATION

THE AURA OF THE APP

I wanted Tuned In to be a bright and visually interesting app. I took inspiration from all different kinds of apps and user interface examples to see what flow would work the best and what kind of colors and visuals I could bring to the app.

SCENARIOS:
1) You want to see all of your saved information in the app. Log in.
2) You were traumatized at the last GWAR concert you went to and now you want to move across the country and completely change what style of music you follow. Edit your account so Tuned In will give you options where you won’t get assaulted by fans in viking gear.
3) All Time Low is your favorite band, but you’re not sure if you’re going to like the setlist for their upcoming tour. Review the setlist for their Last Young Renegade Tour so you can decide if you want to pay to get squished by a bunch of fangirls in the pit.
4) The Maine is finally on tour again and last time you saw them you missed out on an insane meet and greet after the show. You want to buy tickets but you need to make sure there are meet and greet packages available so you can meet the lead singer and make him fall in love with you.
5) You’ve already reviewed the setlist for All Time Low’s Last Young Renegade Tour and after some careful deliberation, you’ve decided it’ll be worth getting squished by a bunch of fangirls in the pit to see your favorite band. Purchase a general admission ticket.
6) You want to see Bowling For Soup but you’re not sure if your friend will go with and you’ve watched too many episodes of Criminal Minds to be comfortable navigating Philly by yourself at night. Add it to your wish list so you can follow the event while you take self defense classes in preparation.
7) Because you did your research and purchased a meet and greet option, you got to meet The Maine last night and now you need to tell everyone about how amazing the show was. Review the tour.
8) You just got home from the Last Young Renegade Tour and now you need to post all about it, because if you go to a concert and don’t post anything, did you even really go? Add pictures of the show, add the merch items you bought, and update the setlist.
9) You’ve decided that you’re going to brave the streets of Philly for the Bowling For Soup concert, but you’re still not willing to risk getting an Uber and getting kidnapped. Find out what parking is like at the venue.
10) You want to reminisce on all of the amazing concerts you’ve been to and check in on the ones you’re going to because concerts are the only thing that matter in your life. View your events.

RESULTS:
The first round of user testing of the wireframes revealed that people were confused about the bottom navigation. Some of the icons weren't expressive enough so I added descriptive words to lead people to the right places. People were also confused about where to go to find shows. Almost everyone clicked on Wishlist to go to their recommended shows. Changing the icons and adding descriptive words definitely helped people navigate to the correct pages. One other issue users had was trying to find the reviews and parking. The name of the link was not clear, so no one would navigate to that page. The user testing of the actual mockup on Invision went well. Most of the issues from the wireframe testing were resolved and people overall had a very easy time navigating through the app.
