Malcolm James McCormick, known professionally as Mac Miller, was born on January 19, 1992, in Point Breeze, Pittsburgh, PA. He was a self-taught musician. Miller played piano, guitar, drums, and bass by the age of six. He first started rapping at the age of 14, and began his career as a rapper and record producer by 15.

Miller began his career in Pittsburgh's hip hop scene in 2007, at the age of fifteen. While he was still in school he released a mixtape called ‘But My Mackin’ Ain’t Easy’. At the time he referred to himself as EZ Mac.
After releasing two succcessful mixtapes, he signed on to Rostrum Records in 2010, at just 17 years old. and released “K.I.D.S” Later the same year, he embarked on his first tour after the album’s success with tickets selling out to each show. His first music video to his hit single “Knock Knock” was also released this year which went viral giving him nationwide recognition.
In July 2011, Miller announced his first album ‘Blue Slide Park’ on his YouTube Channel. The album was released in November 2011 after a slight delay. It was ranked No. 1 on Billboard 200 and sold 144,000 copies within the first week of its release.
Miller spoke openly about his struggle with substance abuse and depression. Miller revealed that he was heavily relying on a combination of promethazine and codeine, a mixture kown as "lean" to manage stress while he was on his first tour.
His second album ‘Watching Movies with the Sound Off’ was released in June 2013. The same year he also created his own record label called “REMember Me”after one of his friends who died.
After a long association, Mac Miller severed all his ties with the ‘Rostrum Records’ label in 2014. In the same year, he signed a recording contract and distribution deal for his personal recording label ‘REMember Music’ with Warner Bros. Records for $10 million.
In September he released his third album called ‘GO:OD AM’. It charted at number four on the Billboard 200,
In August, TMZ reported that Mac Miller was in relationship with American singer Ariana Grande. The report was later confirmed by Ariana Grande in an In- stagram post. His fourth studio album, The Divine Feminine, was released on September 16, 2016.
The couple ended things in May 2018. Miller's fifth studio album, Swimming, was released on August 3, 2018, to positive reviews from his fans. Swimming de- buted at number three on the Billboard 200, his fifth consecutive top five-charting album release in the United States.
On September 7th, 2018, Miller was found unresponsive in his Studio City home by his personal assistant, who called 911 and performed CPR until paramedics arrived. Miller was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:51 a.m. He had been scheduled for a video shoot on the day of his death, and was to embark on his Swimming Tour in October. On November 5, 2018, the Los Angeles County Coroner's office deter- mined that Miller died from an accidental drug overdose due to a "mixed drug toxicity" of fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol. He was buried at Home- wood Cemetery in his hometown of Pittsburgh. After his death in September 2018, the single "Self Care" rose to number 33 on the Billboard Hot 100, his highest peak as a lead artist at the time. Swimming was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards.
