Walter "Walt" Whitman was and American poet, essayist, and journalist in the 19th century.

He is one of the most influential American Poets because of his involvement in the transition between transcendentalism and realism.

He has many published works. His two most famous works are Franklin Evans (1842); a temperance novel, and Leaves of Grass (1855), a collection of poetry.
