THE GAME

Overall this is an interactive “bullet hell” video game. The game is in the style of an old school space shooter, like Galaga, a 2D overhead shooter.

The player takes the role of a space ship shooting it’s way through a galaxy of opposing ships and various obstacles.

OThe ship will be fixed to the bottom middle of the screen and given a 180º range of motion.

CONTROLLER

The controller for this video game is a bicycle. The user will sit on a mounted bike and given the freedom to pedal at whatever pace they choose.

They also have full range of motion to the handle bars that control the ship.

A heart rate sensor will be placed on the players finger tracking their heart rate and controlling the speed of their ships bullet speed.

TESTING

The game itself will need to be tested by playing the game at nearly every phase to ensure that the concept of the game, the game controls, and game systems work together with and without the added technology.

The bike will be manually tested when we set it up on the structure used to hold it in place during use, then continually tested when each system is added to the game itself, which includes the placement and use of the gyroscope, heart monitor, and pedaling to increase heart rate.

A heart rate sensor will be placed on the players finger tracking their heart rate and controlling the speed of their ships bullet speed.

The gyroscope will need to be tested initially to confirm that it is properly calibrated and tracking. It will then be applied to the game and tested for the movement system within the game, which will ensure compliance. The final testing needed for the gyroscope it after it is attached to the bike, and will turn the player in the game at a consistent rate.

The heart monitor will be tested within it’s own software to make sure it is reading the pulse accurately. Once it is configured to track properly, and the data is able to be read into the game, the testing of the character’s fire rate will need testing over the course of a few test runs.

The bike pedaling will need initial testing so that we are certain that the bike will not move too much during the gameplay. We will also test that the pedaling can give an average person a heart-rate increase large enough to impact the gameplay, without ruining the experience with over exertion.
