Spot On!

By Robert Henry

Ring! Ring! Ring! Spot snapped awake on the alert! Oh, it was Dots alarm. You see, Spot was no normal dog. He was bright, I mean very bright, in fact he was bright white! But that wouldn't last for long, at least, not if the day went well.

It all started back when Dot got a very special Birthday present. She was seven years young, lucky seven! Little did she know how lucky that year was going to be. As she scrambled up onto her chair she saw the source of the beautiful glow, her birthday candles! Mother bought a very large square box to the dinner table and placed right in front of Dot. It was time for presents! Dot got a brand new bicycle and a puppy named Spot!

The next morning Dot was woken up bright and early by loving licks from Spot. She noticed he had no spots at all again. Wow, maybe it was just dirt and he had somehow cleaned himself off through the night. After breakfast, she climbed on her new bike, and with Spot in the basket, rolled down the driveway toward new adventures. On their way around town, Spot collected all sorts of items he found and put them in the basket. Dot didn't understand why he was collecting so many items. In the mean time, she started to think about her next project: a planet diorama.

When they arrived home, Dot collected all the things they had found. Next, she started to think about her planet diorama. She would need some round shapes, a shoebox, some string and paint to make the many colored planets. "Where am I going to get those things?" "Ruff!" Spot yelped out! He was standing over the things they had found that day, the round balls, the shoebox, the string to hang things. "Wait a minute, Spot, you're so smart" Dot cried out. All the things they had discovered today would be perfect for her planet diorama!

She made her planet diorama that afternoon with Spot happily watching by her side. The next day was a school day, and she would show off her Planet Mobile. As she brushed her teeth that morning she noticed Spot's spots were gone!

What was going on? She thought back to their bike ride yesterday and realized that every time Spot found something, he got a spot! It was then that Dot knew Spot was a very special dog.

The next day after Dot got home from school, she told Spot that she had to make sailing boat. With a happy bark, Spot jumped into the bike basket, and with a chuckle, Dot rolled down the driveway, off to their next magical adventure! With a happy shout, Dot yelled, "Spot On!"
