Overview

Astronaut is an interactive experience for students in middle school who are beginning to learn astronomy. Focusing on the constellations, users wear a MYO Gesture Controlled Armband that allows them to navigate through outer space. There are two specific interactions that Astronaut users can perform.

1. Navigate through space using a grab and pull side to side or up and down motion.
2. Trigger information on and off using the "fist" or "fingers spread" gesture.
The view sees a basic structure of outer space and the most popular 15 constellations that are known to man. I began with these and worked with those for the basis of my project.

The constellations I will focused on are Aquarius, Aquila, Aries, Canis Major, Cassiopeia, Cygnus, Gemini, Leo, Lyra, Orion, Pisces, Scorpius, Taurus, Ursa Major, and Ursa Minor. Information for each constellation includes name, symbollism, number of stars, brief description of history or important facts, and when it is most visible. *Basis for code was taken from example one in the MYO Library. The mapping, gesture actions, and variables are all my code.

Conclusion

By mapping the orientation of the armband and using gestures to trigger information, users were able to call the image on screen and draw the image with their arm. This created an immersive experience when projected at full size, and provided an educational tool.
