UX/UI Redesign Project

For this project, we had to redesign the ArtsQuest website, especially the chekcout process. The original site is designed poorly and is confusing to the user who is trying to purchase tickets for a concert or sign up for an art class. The goal of this redesign project was to design a user-friendly site that makes the process of browsing and ordering easy and painless.

us·er ex·pe·ri·ence

noun

the overall experience of a person using a product such as a website or computer application, especially in terms of how easy or pleasing it is to use.

Analysis

This is the process flow from the first time I went through the ArtsQuest site and discovered how to navigate from finding something to buy to confirming the purchase. The pain points are also listed in red, to identity to confusing parts of the process.

Research

As I began my research, I made note of other similar web sites who were easy to use and beautifully designed. I kept these in my files for future inspiration.

Process Flows

After given specific scenarios, I did a process flow for the two scenarios and how to navigate through them.

Personas

I identified some typical users who might be using the ArtsQuest site and the different scenarios they are in.

Competitors

As I continued my research, I went back to some of my competitors and studied how easy or hard their checkout process was and took screenshots of the process for documentation.

Revised Plan

After all the preliminary research, I made a revised process flow for how users would navigate through my redesgined site in their specific scenarios.

Wireframes

Using UXPin, I started constructing wireframes for the site to get the general flow of thought and direction for the layout.

User Testing

Before I started designing the site, I had guests come in to look at my site with fresh eyes and try some simple scenarios to see if my site was confusing or straightforward.

Mockups

Taking this new information from my guests in the previous step, I started designing the site.

Results

The very last step was to have more guests try different scenarios and record my results.

Overall, my redesigned site was very straightforward to navigate through and the guests had easy way of finding the wanted information. If I were to change anything more, it would be to rework the color scheme to have more muted colors so the users aren't distracted by the colorful page but can have an easier way of finding what they want.

I would also limit the amount of text on the web pages and only have what is absolutely necessary, since people scan the pages and don't read them unless they think it's important.

I conclude that this project went really well and I learned much about ux/ui design, the importance of user testing during the early stages and how a few, simple changes to a website can make a big difference.
