UX / UI Redesign Project

This assignment required the redesign of Stowe Mountain Resort Online Store. The entire process is confusing and irritating. They have complicated products with unclear directions and it only leads to madness. Below are all the steps I took to reach the final prototype site. View the site here.

Analysis

This is the original process flow made from the first time I went through the site. The pain points are listed and highlighted in red.

Research

Refered to web stores that were working and noted what was good about the following examples. I kept these in mind as inpiration to apply to my site.

Situational Proccess Flows

After given specific scenarios, I did a process flow for each situation.

Personas

Next, I identitifed some typical personas that would be using the site.

Competitors

From there, I researched competitors sites and tried to figure out how they solved their UX / UI.

Revised Plan

After all the research, I built a revised process flow of how the website should work.

Wireframes

Next step was to begin wireframing and laying out the general plan for each page.

Mockups

Now the fun part, designing the site.

User Testing

Lastly, I had fresh eyes come and test out my site with with following scenarios.

Tasks

1. You are a returning user and you already have the ESC. You need to reload a single day adult ticket.

No issues here.

2. You are a new user. You plan on returning throughout the season and don't want to reload each time. You compare the bypass to the lift ticket and pick the best option. You need ESCs and tickets for you, your wife and kid. You are shopping on a phone.

Process was completed but unclear on what the price of the ticket will be. The mobile menu needs a home option.

3. You are a new user. You want to get the Seven Plus season pass for you and your bae.

No issues here.

4. You are a new user. You want to take your family on a 3-day trip. You need a ticket for you, your wife and your 2 kids. The kids need skis and helmets.

Process was completed but was caught up on the log in / create account page. I need to place them next to eachother so the create account option is accessible without scrolling.

5. You are a returning user with two people on your account. You want to connect both people with a bypass. You are shopping on a phone.

User went to the connect new bypass page instead of reload page but solved the issue quickly with the "if you already have an esc click here" option. Rearrange the mobile homepage so the reload option is first or make "if you already have an esc click here" option more prominent.

Conclusion

There were a few issues that stood out to me the most that I would need to fix. First, I would like the "add to cart" button to cause a drop down from the top rather than take you to the cart page. Second, I would like to make the tickets page less confusing, possibly make the calendar an additional way to pick a date rather than the only way to get to the tickets. Lastly, I would like to reduce the amount of text since I noticed that the majority of the users did not read it. I need to make it quick and simple so people can scan it for the answer.
