Getting Started

Knitting is a fun and potentially rewarding hobby! Once you learn a few basic stitches, you can start working on a variety of projects! With knitting, you can make scarves, hats, blankets, throws, sweaters, even stuffed animals! Each of these can be made and remade with changes to the patterns to incorporate unusual textures and diverse colors. The possible crafts are endless!

After learning a few basic stitches, and learnign how to cast off, you can delve into pretty much any project you want to! This is what makes knitting universal and versatile.

Supplies

There are many important items every knitter should have in her arsenal. These include a wide selection of yarns! The more skiens, the better! All of these should be kept somewhere safe and dry to preserve the texture and keep the yarn from fraying. Proper care of your suplies will save you money!

In addition, knitting is a very portable craft, so a potable baskt or knitting bag would make the hobby more spotaneous, so you could take your supplies and knit anywhere you have the time! In addition, all works in progress, or projects to be resumed at a later date, should always be stored so hat the stitches will not come undone. It is a tremendous headache trying to resume a project when the stitces are tangled up in another skein of yarn.

What to Use

You can knit with a variety of different tools. There are circular needles, straight needles, and bamboo needles. All needles come in different size, or "gauges", and diffeent sized needles pair well with different yarn thickness.

There are also a wide selection of yarns to use. There are wool and acrylic yarns, synthetic blends, and tons of different yarn weights, from super fine to roving and bulky yarns. A wide slection of available coors makes knitting a contasntly changing and ever exciting pastime.
