1967
Construction on Walt Disney World begins
Walt Disney died from circulatory collapse caused by smoking related lung cancer on December 15, 1966, before his vision was realized. His brother and business partner, Roy O. Disney, postponed his retirement to oversee construction of the resort's first phase.
1971
Magic Kingdom
On October 25th, 1971 the Magic Kingdom opened with around 10,000 visitors. For the weeks after opening day it was filled to capacity in the six different themed lands; Adventureland, Fantasyland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Main Street USA and Tomorrowland.
1982
EPCOT
Once 1982 came, Walt Disney World resort had put twice the size investment while adding Epcot to the parks. Their attendance count had gone over one hundred million guests. Epcot Center, a combination of Future World and World Showcase representing an investment of over a billion dollars, opened to great acclaim October 1, 1982.
1989
Hollywood Studios
In the late 80’s they added MGM studios, later renamed Hollywood Studios. It was home to a working backlot studio along with many attrations and areas themed to Hollywood.
1998
Animal Kingdom
Disney’s Animal Kingdom -- a whole new species of theme park with 13 animal-themed adventures opened in 1998. A greatly expanded Asia section opened in 1999.
