Saucony Creek Brewing Company is a forward-thinking craft brewery proudly fashioning hyper-local adventurous beers in an effort to keep glass-clinking camaraderie alive and well. We’ve recognized that a truly spectacular beer possesses the power to erase all boundaries and unify individuals no matter what their differences may be. Through our network of fellow brewers, farmers, craftsmen, adventurers, strangers who have become family, and heaps of global experiences that mold our like-minded cultures and lifestyles with together with all who sip our beers and we have named our friends.
In an industry where newbies continue to emerge and strive for originality, Saucony Creek Brewing Company is destined to break the mold with authentic, small-batch creations accented by an open-minded, “say we won’t” type of attitude. Despite our tiny town presence, there’s a world of passion and experience dripping from each Saucony sip.
This is a real term, not a marketing title. We actually grow stuff, and then make beer and food with that stuff that grew out of the dirt. Saucony is named after the creek and water source that runs through Matt’s hometown and Saucony Creek’s production grounds of Kutztown, Pennsylvania, the vision from day one was to unite like-minded brewers, craftsmen, chefs, natural farmers, friends, and local businesses. We work hard to do our best at incorporating as much local grown and sourced ingredients as possible.
Since officially launching in March 2013 Saucony Creek Brewing Company has developed a presence in Pennsylvania and caused quite a stir during their inaugural Philly Beer Week 2013 when they shut down a city block to host a BMX stunt show and tap-takeover at the Pub on Passyunk East (POPE). Eyes were peeled once again when Saucony Creek Brewing Company amassed a group of 90+ kayakers and took to trekking kegs down the Schuylkill River with a tap-takeover at Grace Tavern as their final destination.
At the end of the day, fun events and theatrics aside, Saucony Creek Brewing Company is focused on crafting adventurous beers for adventurous people. We currently do just that by brewing on a 15 barrel brewhouse system into 30 & 45 barrel fermentation tanks with an annual capacity of 6,000 barrels. Saucony Creek packages into 1/6 barrel kegs, 1/2 barrel kegs, and 12 oz. bottles and we now distribute our beers in PA, MA, CT, NJ, DE, D.C., MD & VA.
A heavily hopped Belgian-style Double IPA. We took one of our favorite Belgian farmhouse yeast strains and built a complex full-bodied Double IPA around it. By continually adding American hops at every turn of the process, citrus and floral hop characteristics from our Amarillo and Simcoe hop additions couple exceptionally well with the delicate nuances of vanilla and spicy yeast notes. Full, bready and biscuit malt flavors round out this audaciously brewed 8% ABV Double IPA.
Our Harvest Pale Ale is brewed with fresh, wet hops from our friends down the road at Hop Hill Farm, New Jerusalem PA. Bright golden in color, this easy drinking pale ale has a beautiful bouquet of Cascade hops, a touch of Rye malt and a gentle bitterness to round out the flavors.
A traditional white ale that we brew to style, with a balance of soft white wheat and malts that offer a slight and tangy sweetness while giving off a distinct citrus orange aroma thanks to the additions of coriander and sweet orange peel. A drinkably refreshing beer designed to quench your thirst at any time of the day.
Our 10% ABV Imperial IPA brewed with honey is known as Hop Suplex Ale. The pleasant orange color of this beer accompanies classic American hop aromas of pine needles and freshly sliced grapefruit. Hop Suplex has subtle hints of honey with a mouthful of hop flavor. As this medium bodied beer warms the orange blossom honey flavors become noticeable. The beer rounds out with a warm yet pleasant bitter finish. Best served at cellar temperatures.
A smooth, dark, creamy Porter aged on American Oak and whole Madagascar Vanilla beans. Notes of sweet fig, caramel and chocolate fudge lie under the dry toasted oak and sweet fresh vanilla flavors. Cold temperatures and a long lagering phase add an exceptionally smooth character to the beer.
In local hometown Pennsylvania-Dutch fashion we crafted a lager that is brewed with malts that we smoke overtop of Kutztown Ring Bologna, infusing traditional Pennsylvania Dutch flavors. Kutztown Lager is not an overly smoked Rauchbier. Instead the Lager is bright amber in color with a very subtle hint of smoke flavor delivered with a classic crisp lager mouthfeel.
In the autumn of 1720, Captain Jack Rachman and his pirate-mates were celebrating their victories in typical hard-drinking tradition. Suddenly a British Navy sloop surprised them. The drunken pirates hid below deck, leaving Captain Jack’s mistresses Anne Bonney and Mary Read to defend the ship. The women shared a reputation as “fierce hell cats,” but the British Navy eventually overtook the pirate ship. Captain Jack and the pirates were sentenced to hang. Anne visited her lover in his cell before his execution, and instead of loving words her scathing comments live on throughout history, “Had you fought like a man, you need not have been hang’d like a dog.” Their legacy inspired us to brew an equally ferocious Imperial Pumpkin Ale brewed with pirate rum spices. We added a touch of autumn flavor with roasted butternut squash and natural maple syrup.
Pennsylvania German’s translate “Schnickelfritz” to mean a Nix Nux, or naughty rebellious child who is always getting into trouble. That sums up our family here at Saucony Creek. Schnickelfritz Chocolate Stout is brewed with dark caramel malts, chocolate malts and lactose to create a smooth creamy mouth feel. Milk chocolate and real cherries are added for a winter warmer treat.
Stonefly India Pale Ale is our nod to the time-honored vintage hops that made American IPA’s so great. Hops like Cascade, Centennial and even the long forgotten Chinook are showcased here for their unique flavors and aromas. The bitterness is moderate while supporting the direct burst of hop fruitiness throughout the beer. A delightfully quaffable American IPA.
Stonefly IPA continues to support the efforts of the Schuylkill Action Network by donating a portion of proceeds to the Schuylkill River Watershed Restoration Fund to protect the source waters and health of the Schuylkill River watershed.
We’re celebrating a little bigger this fall with our Octoberfest bier taken up to the next level. Just a little bit stronger, a little bit maltier, and a lot more fun! Warm notes of toasted bread, biscuit, toffee, and a sweet touch of spicy malt flavor. An incomparable smooth, round, juicy sweetness lends itself to the fresh floral Tettnanger hops from our friends at Hop Hill Farm, New Jerusalem, PA.
Sauconator pours a deep russet brown color leaving behind a rich pillowy tan head. Sweet caramel and toffee are the dominant flavors with a smooth chocolatey maltiness lingering in the background. Sauconator is unfiltered to retain its full bodied rich creamy flavor. 7.5% ABV
We cold steep this Imperial Coffee Stout with rich full bodied (413) coffee beans roasted by our friends at Barrington Coffee Roasting Company in Lee, MA. We brewed this special batch exclusively for Massachusetts, so we asked around for everyone’s favorite coffee in town and the consensus sent us into Barrington Roasters for some of their farm direct (413). The heady perfume of (413)’s maraschino cherry, molasses, strawberry, caramelized fig, blond tobacco, and malt flavors and aromas rise to the top delighting the senses. The beer then gracefully coats the palate with a deep cushion of velvet, lush silk appeal. At 11.5% ABV warm alcohol flavors elegantly finish this delightfully sensuous brew.
A complex, rich, very smooth Belgian Strong Dark Ale. Dark Belgian Candi syrup combines with a classic Abbey yeast revealing marvelous complexities. Flavors of fig, raisin, banana and hints of spice balance exceptionally well with the subtle alcohol warmth at a dangerously drinkable 9.8% ABV.
