The broad objective of this project was to create an app. We were instructed to first come up with a unique idea, and then eventually create a user friendly prototype of this app. Along the way we created wire frames, process flows, a unique logo and app icon, and a professional-looking layout design for the app.
The first step of this process was to come up with 3 different potential app ideas and research at least 3 different competitors. I eventually narrowed this down to one idea. My final app description is as follows:
"This app is a music listening app and a matchmaker app all in one. Throughout my dating experiences I always found I connected more with people who share a similar music taste to mine, but I always wished there was an easier way to find these people. This app lets you stream music just like spotify and it logs/tracks your songs and music taste. The app then matches you with people who have been listening to similar songs and artists."
Below you will see screen shots of some of my app's competitors. I like how Tinder lets you swipe left and right for people you like and dislike. I think that’s a fast and easy way to find people you’re attracted too. I think spotify has a lot of buttons that can get confusing and hard to figure out what you wanna do. I don’t like how Tastebuds charges you money to view people’s profiles.
For part two I created 5 imaginary personas for people that would possibly be using Beat. I made a list of their pictures and their personalities as well as certain needs they would have for my app.
I also created a list of my apps features which can be seen below.
Part 3 involved capturing all my interaction steps in a pricess flow. I also created a sitemap which includes the main and sub navigation options.
Next I created wireframes for the general layout my app. I first did some wirefram sketches and refined them before putting them in UX pin. My final, clickable wireframe is shown below.
For part 5 I created a user testing script which gave my users a list of 10 tasks to perform on my app. I had 3 users click through my wireframes and took notes on what I should change depending on my user testing. My user testing script was as follows:
1 Go through the steps to create a profile.
2 Like any post on your home page.
3 You want to find someone to match with. Go through 2 match options and give them a thumbs up or down depending on whether or not you like them.
4 You want to listen to Pink Floyd, search for them.
5 Play “Time” by Pink Floyd
6 Search for Pink Floyd again and add “Comfortably Numb” to your summer 2017 playlist.
7 View your Summer 2017 playlist and play “Song 3”
8 View all of your matches
9 You’ve decided you don’t like Ryan S. anymore. Un-match him.
10 You no longer want to use the match maker feature because you got a boyfriend/girlfriend. Go to your settings and go unlisted.
After this first round of user testing, I changed some buttons and things on my wireframes and did 2 more rounds of user testing. I continued to revise until I felt my app had a good UX design.
For part 6, I started out by sketching different logo and icon options for my app

Next I created 2 different mockups of my app interface design in Adobe Illustrator. I ended up choosing the first design.
After choosing my final design, I used invision to create a clickable prototype which can be viewed below. After a few more rounds of user testing, my app prototype was finally complete.
For the last part of this project, I recorded a video of me walking through the steps of my usability test script. This video acts as a demonstration of how my app works and the features it has to offer.
