Hawk Mountain Interactive Learning Module

Christian Debuque

OVERVIEW

The Hawk Mountain interactive learning module is a rear-projected screen where users can pick up local wildlife images and immediately learn about them. Each image of local wildlife has a unique fiducial on the back. User will hold up the images to the screen and web cam identifies each fiducial individually. Once recognized, it projects information about the image as well as a short accompanying animation.

The Purpose of the project is to get patrons of Hawk Mountain excited about learning more about the local wildlife. The audience will be more engaged while hiking on the trail and look for wildlife they may have just learned about for the first time!

CONCLUSION

There's no easy way to put together a project you know nothing about. Overall, I'm glad I learned the limits of what's possible and what isn't. Creating the frame that the project would be projected on to proved to be a bigger task than anticipated. There were so many factors to consider when creating it. There was also the challenge of making the projection surface semi-opaque so that it could be projected on.
